How to Extract WhatsApp Messages from Your iCloud Backup

Image
WhatApp Messager 2.10.1 or later allows its iPhone users to back up the chat history to iCloud, the media (expect for your videos) will be backed up as well. If you reinstall WhatsApp next time or delete important information in WhatsApp, you can restore your chat history from your iCloud backup. Back up the chat messages to iCloud regularly is a good habit for data security. Back up WhatsApp Messages to iCloud in iOS Before you back up WhatsApp chat message to iCloud, you need to allow WhatApp to store documents and data in iCloud. For iOS 7 users, turn on WhatsApp from Settings -> iCloud -> Documents & Data , for iOS 8 users, turn on iCloud Drive from Settings -> iCloud -> iCloud Drive . Next, backup your chats in WhatsApp from Settings -> Chat Settings -> Chat Backup , you can also use auto-backup to do that.                                     ...

Facebook is asking users to judge the truthfulness of news headlines

Image
Facebook is apparently asking users to rate the quality of news stories on its service, after facing criticism for allowing fake or misleading news. At least three people on Twitter have posted surveys that ask whether a headline “uses misleading language” or “withholds key details of the story.” The earliest one we’ve seen was posted on December 2nd, and asked about a story from UK comedy site  Chortle . Two others reference stories   by rolling stone   and  The Philadelphia Inquirer. It’s not clear what Facebook plans to do with the survey results, and the company did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Facebook has recently gotten in trouble for failing to stop the spread of news that is either outright false or extremely misleading, especially that related to the recent election. The question about withholding details, however, seems to deal with more general concerns about low-quality “clickbait.” Facebook has rolled out ...

Two-thirds of the world's internet users live under government censorship: report

Two-thirds of the world's internet users live under regimes of government censorship, according to a report released today. The report from   Freedom House , a pro-democracy think tank, finds that internet freedom across the globe declined for a sixth consecutive year in 2016, as governments cracked down on social media services and messaging apps. The findings are based on an analysis of web freedom in 65 countries, covering 88 percent of the world's online population. Freedom House ranked China as the worst abuser of internet freedom for the second consecutive year, followed by Syria and Iran. (The report does not include North Korea.) Online freedom in the US increased slightly over the year due to the USA Freedom Act, which limits the bulk collection of metadata carried out by the National Security Agency (NSA) and other intelligence agencies. "AN ESPECIALLY HARMFUL IMPACT ON HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDERS, JOURNALISTS, AND MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES" This year ...

Qustion OR Confusion Why does iOS 10 feel like a step backwards in design?

I know well about  graphics, I have keen eyes, love the details and appreciate them the most when they are subtle to serve the purpose. This is why I fell in love with Apple products at the first place, they are simply beautiful and easy to use. Apple is the only company that believes in absolute simplicity - and also believes in the fact that they understand and know things better than you actually do, looking at what they have done over years, it’s a fair assumption, don’t you think? :) Over years Apple has perfected the art of executing the details when all other companies out there fail, continuously. Now let’s dwell further to understand the story, let’s give it a fair trial. I started using iOS 10 in July after the first public beta was out, trust me, I was shocked to see how the entire UI looked and felt, I am forced to believe that these decisions have some rationale behind - I simply can’t believe the fact that the world’s best minds can produce something so bad ...

Is an internet speed of 1 mbps fast enough for everyday use?

I have 1mbps broadband connection, using for a year, and I can play YouTube videos without buffer UpTo 360p resolution, Download speed is 120–125KBps and In 1 Hr 400MB data can be downloaded, 1 movie can be downloaded in 1hr. Problem : Video calling and online gaming(sniper fury or asphalt 8) will lag a lot, While video call ,you can only see other person, but other person can't see you properly, because of low Upload speed ,in Video calling Upload speed matters more than Downloading. Same online gaming upload speed lags, and game suffer .Otherwise It's fine speed, faster websites opening , Stream online movie a relatively low resolution like 360p or 480p, actually ,if you have buffered a movie about 1 minute ahead and then play ,buffer less. If you don't play online games ,and video calling is less to no , Then it's good , provided the price you pay, in my Case I'm getting 1mbps speed flat , Unlimited data at 250 rs(indian rupee) .And I feel it's chea...

Why is Tim Cook doing stuff Steve Jobs would have never agreed to?

Because he is Tim Cook. Before he died, Steve Jobs told Tim Cook “Don’t try to be like me. Be like Tim Cook.” (Or words to that effect — I don’t have the source in front of me right now.) Tim Cook is a different person and he sees the world differently than Steve Jobs. He manages Apple the only way he knows how — like Tim Cook. This is overall a good thing. Under Tim Cook’s leadership Apple has taken steps to improve worker conditions in factories overseas. They have made far more charitable donations. And, for better or worse, Apple has actually taken a stand on several issues — something Steve Jobs never did. Look — Steve Jobs is dead. I don’t hear you asking why the CEO of Ford Motors is doing stuff Henry Ford would never do, or why Barack Obama is doing stuff [insert name of president here] would never do. Leaders lead according to their own style. Tim Cook is leading Apple as only Tim Cook can. EDIT:  I do not mean to infer that Steve Jobs did not take a stand on...

Smartphone Security: Android vs. iPhone vs. BlackBerry vs. Windows Phone - Top Mobile Threats

Image
How secure is your mobile phone? Beyond the Android vs iPhone debate, what are your options for providing better smartphone security for yourself or your company? Mobile devices have become both integral and ubiquitous in everyone's lives, and so they have attracted the interest of criminal hackers eager to steal your vital information. Here are a few tips to help you protect yourself. Three Layers of Security As  InfoWorld  notes, all smartphones have three basic elements of security. Your first major task as a mobile user is to become aware of these layers and enable them in your devices: Device Protection: Allowing remote data "wiping" if your device is ever lost or stolen. Data Protection: Preventing corporate data from being transferred to personal apps running on the same device or personal network App-Management Security: Protecting your in-app information from becoming compromised. Smartphone security depends not only on the phones, but also on the m...

"REALLY No one wants to buy Twitter"?

The emotional roller coaster that is Twitter’s future seems to have hit a new low today as Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff  tells the  Financial Times   his company has “walked away” from making a bid to buy it. If you’re keeping track, that’s now... pretty much everyone who’s said they’re not interested in buying Twitter.  Neither Google nor Disney plan to bid on Twitter , despite reports saying both were interested.  Recode  says  that Apple is likely also out of the picture. And Verizon immediately  dismissed speculation  that it was considering a bid. Facebook is also said to be uninterested,  according to CNBC . And while Microsoft’s name has been tossed around,  no one   seems to think  the acquisition would make any sense for an increasingly enterprise-focused company. That’s going to put even more pressure on Twitter to figure out a way to restart user growth, which has ranged from “stalled” to “slow” over the ...

It is now a federal crime to bring a Galaxy Note 7 onto an airplane

The Federal Aviation Administration  officially banned Galaxy Note 7s from being brought onto airplanes  earlier this week, and under a new Emergency Restriction / Prohibition Order, it’s now a federal crime to fly with the device. The FAA issued  Emergency Restriction/Prohibition Order No. FAA-2016- 9288  on Friday, which states that as of noon on October 15, fliers are prohibited from bringing the device onto an aircraft. The order restricts passengers from carrying the phone "on their person, in carry-on baggage, in checked baggage, or as cargo," and says that anyone who inadvertently brings one on a plane must power it down immediately. Carriers are also required to "deny boarding to a passenger in possession" of the phone. Passengers who bring a Note 7 onto a plane are "subject to civil penalties of up to $179,933 for each violation for each day they are found to be in violation (49 U.S.C. 5123)," and could be prosecuted, which could "resul...

Excessive use of internet may lead to anxiety, depression: Study

TORONTO: People who use the  internet  excessively may have more mental health problems, such as depression and anxiety, a new study has claimed. Using two scales to evaluate internet use, researchers from McMaster University in Canada found high rates of problematic internet use in a group of primarily college-aged students. They evaluated internet addiction using the Internet Addiction Test, as well as newer scale of their own design, based on updated addiction criteria. The study may have implications for how psychiatrists approach excessive internet use, researchers said. The unstoppable rise of the internet has given rise to fears that increasing numbers people are becoming unable to cope without regularly going  online . The Internet Addiction Test (IAT) is the standard test used to measure excessive reliance on the internet. "The IAT was developed in 1998, prior to the widespread use of smartphone technology . In addition, internet use has changed radi...
