Two-thirds of the world's internet users live under government censorship: report

Two-thirds of the world's internet users live under regimes of government censorship, according to a report released today. The report from   Freedom House , a pro-democracy think tank, finds that internet freedom across the globe declined for a sixth consecutive year in 2016, as governments cracked down on social media services and messaging apps. The findings are based on an analysis of web freedom in 65 countries, covering 88 percent of the world's online population. Freedom House ranked China as the worst abuser of internet freedom for the second consecutive year, followed by Syria and Iran. (The report does not include North Korea.) Online freedom in the US increased slightly over the year due to the USA Freedom Act, which limits the bulk collection of metadata carried out by the National Security Agency (NSA) and other intelligence agencies. "AN ESPECIALLY HARMFUL IMPACT ON HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDERS, JOURNALISTS, AND MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES" This year ...

Qustion OR Confusion Why does iOS 10 feel like a step backwards in design?

I know well about  graphics, I have keen eyes, love the details and appreciate them the most when they are subtle to serve the purpose. This is why I fell in love with Apple products at the first place, they are simply beautiful and easy to use. Apple is the only company that believes in absolute simplicity - and also believes in the fact that they understand and know things better than you actually do, looking at what they have done over years, it’s a fair assumption, don’t you think? :) Over years Apple has perfected the art of executing the details when all other companies out there fail, continuously. Now let’s dwell further to understand the story, let’s give it a fair trial. I started using iOS 10 in July after the first public beta was out, trust me, I was shocked to see how the entire UI looked and felt, I am forced to believe that these decisions have some rationale behind - I simply can’t believe the fact that the world’s best minds can produce something so bad ...

Is an internet speed of 1 mbps fast enough for everyday use?

I have 1mbps broadband connection, using for a year, and I can play YouTube videos without buffer UpTo 360p resolution, Download speed is 120–125KBps and In 1 Hr 400MB data can be downloaded, 1 movie can be downloaded in 1hr. Problem : Video calling and online gaming(sniper fury or asphalt 8) will lag a lot, While video call ,you can only see other person, but other person can't see you properly, because of low Upload speed ,in Video calling Upload speed matters more than Downloading. Same online gaming upload speed lags, and game suffer .Otherwise It's fine speed, faster websites opening , Stream online movie a relatively low resolution like 360p or 480p, actually ,if you have buffered a movie about 1 minute ahead and then play ,buffer less. If you don't play online games ,and video calling is less to no , Then it's good , provided the price you pay, in my Case I'm getting 1mbps speed flat , Unlimited data at 250 rs(indian rupee) .And I feel it's chea...

Why is Tim Cook doing stuff Steve Jobs would have never agreed to?

Because he is Tim Cook. Before he died, Steve Jobs told Tim Cook “Don’t try to be like me. Be like Tim Cook.” (Or words to that effect — I don’t have the source in front of me right now.) Tim Cook is a different person and he sees the world differently than Steve Jobs. He manages Apple the only way he knows how — like Tim Cook. This is overall a good thing. Under Tim Cook’s leadership Apple has taken steps to improve worker conditions in factories overseas. They have made far more charitable donations. And, for better or worse, Apple has actually taken a stand on several issues — something Steve Jobs never did. Look — Steve Jobs is dead. I don’t hear you asking why the CEO of Ford Motors is doing stuff Henry Ford would never do, or why Barack Obama is doing stuff [insert name of president here] would never do. Leaders lead according to their own style. Tim Cook is leading Apple as only Tim Cook can. EDIT:  I do not mean to infer that Steve Jobs did not take a stand on...
